Nineteen years ago, on the island kingdom of Garlin, a girl was born. With charred skin as rough as rock, Vala was instantly feared. For how could one be scorched by magic when it had perished ages before?
Recognizing an asset, the royal family welcomed her on their Guard. Her detail: the prince.
To watch. To protect. She has grown with him, lives her life for him.
When the high kingdom’s princess comes to assess the prince, assassins of rival courtiers come to claim his life. One nearly succeeds in his mission. But with shadowy movements and charred skin like her own, Vala knows he is not like the rest.
As threats to the prince continue and questions about Vala’s life begin to rise, she faces a fear worse than fire or water, worse even than losing him.
She fears finding out who she truly is.
Every book I have read of Mrs. Miller’s I have not been disappointed, this didn’t shock me as I enjoyed it also. When she tells a story it is different than most books, it has a different vibe to it and she is very unique. I thoroughly enjoy her taste in the unknown.
Fallen Flame is just that, it is a story of a girl that just appeared out of no where and she was like no other. She looked to have been burnt to a crisp but it was part of her, feared to be cursed and burned by magic she was shunned by many.
I liked Vala, she had a very unique personality. She seemed hard and tough but all she wanted is what we all want, is to be loved and accepted. There was a love interest in this story but it turns out to be different, no drama. I hate drama especially in books, love triangles frustrate me. This was very light and didn’t feel like I wanted to throw the book or ereader across the room in frustration. Vala comes face to face with what she fears the most and it’s fear of rejection. Yeah even burned girls get burned but she handles everything and I loved the ending. It leaves it open for maybe more? No cliffhanger so that could be all there is but… maybe there’s more.
